Re: Interest rates look like theyre heading up..
There have been numerous predictions of interest rate rises over the last 7 - 8 years. None of which have materialised.

Highly unlikely for a fair while yet.

Don't think they'll be going up for years- problems of the crash haven't gone away- things are probably worse.

Re: Interest rates look like theyre heading up..
Rates should have slowly returned to their natural levels pre financial crisis, but those in charge haven't had a clue what to do.
I suspect they are coming under increasing pressure to raise rates, but unless GDP improves can't see it happening.

All that is happened is that they have choked the economy with low rates.
Savers with no money to spend, only those with a mortgage have benefitted. You wait as and when they do go up, they'll be the first to moan like rates are never supposed to go up, and would have borrowed more than they can afford with rate rises not built into calculations.

Re: Interest rates look like theyre heading up..
Todays mortgage payers are living in very lucky times and if rates go up the whingeing will be rife.

Rates were 15% for some of the years I paid mine.

Can you imagine the armegedon if they went to that level today but no-one blinked an eyelid then, they just got on with it.

64… scary as shit that… remember my Mum and Step Day having a £200k mortgage in the mid 80’s… the repayments on that were scary as shit… got less than 2 years to pay mine off and then happy days… well you know … it’s then time to sort the girl out with a car… uni… house loan… you know 

Re: Interest rates look like theyre heading up..
Trouble is as well house prices have gone from stupid levels pre crisis to unbelievably stupid levels now with very large mortgages taken out.
Scary then, horrific now.

Re: Interest rates look like theyre heading up..
Not been there for a while, have you?

I wish I did live there, but that aside, you couldn't even afford a pint in Bermondsey.

Not that you'd order a full pint, but I'm just trying to give you some perspective.

Irrespective of what happens, can I be the first to blame Corbyn, Abbott, the Day of Rage, the Independent, the BBC, Emma Dent Coad, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Lily Allen, all 'lefties' and Gary Lineker's Twitter account?
Slow off the mark there, boys.

When you was getting interest rates of 15% inflation was probably rising just as fast.

never will we see such interest rates again. House prices are so expensive now that unless we see some serious inflation and wage rises interest rates wont be going up considerably anytime soon. Half the population with a mortgage would go bankrupt!

Trev, I get the feeling the two things intertwine somewhat?

Interest rates might have been terrible, but he probably paid about £4.80 for his gaff.

Swings and roundabouts innit.
